BARNABAS STATEMENT RING
“Barnabas” is a stunning statement ring meaning that it is large and striking! The entire piece is hand made from a single sheet of 22 gauge sterling silver formed with a “cigar band” pancake die and a Barnabas face impression die. Both of these are formed using a 20 ton hydraulic jeweler’s press and a lot of hand work. The process requires extensive metal finishing and at least four torch annealings and pressings to get a lot of detail followed by hole-punching and texturing (dimpling) of the adjustable band. After it is shaped on a ring mandrel, a patina bath is used to darken the silver. The patina process is done a minimum of two times to give the ring added highlights. A thorough polishing is the final step in the making of Barnabas.
Barnabas was, according to tradition, an early Christian, one of the prominent Christian disciples in Jerusalem. According to Acts 4:36, Barnabas was a Cypriot Jew. Named an apostle in Acts 14:14, he and Paul the Apostle undertook missionary journeys together and defended Gentile converts against the Judaizers. Tradition says that Barnabas preached in Alexandria and Rome, and was stoned to death at Salamis about 61 AD.
