Charmed I’m Sure Studio Presents
“What’s the Catch?” & “Frenzied Filigree Ring”
TWO GREAT PROJECTS IN THREE DAYS!
Instructor ~ Robert Lopez
August 14-16, 2020
10:00 am – 5:00 pm
PROJECT ONE – “What’s the Catch?” workshop will cover heat treating titanium to obtain an attractive and durable crystalline structure. The heat treatment can achieve vibrant colors including gold, magenta, purples and blues. We will be using a special resist to achieve unique color patterning on titanium. We will also roller print a pattern on the titanium to give it more texture. We will cover the benefits of working with tarnish resistant Argentium Sterling Silver. Argentium is a silver alloy that is whiter and brighter than traditional sterling and can be annealed softer and hardened beyond traditional sterling. We will be fusing Argentium silver granules, water casts and wire enabling us to cut back on solder joints. I will also instruct students on the process and benefits of constructing a thick wall bezel with tabs for setting a cabochon. We will be making unique hinges from textured sheet and a hidden keyhole catch. The workshop will also cover texturing, soldering, riveting, patina, roller printing, forming and finishing. Students will be using Robert”s “Stinger Riveting System” to make quick and flawless rivets that will join silver and titanium.
PROJECT TWO – “Frenzied Filigree Ring” has been one of my favorite ring designs over the years. The shank will be constructed in a very unconventional manner by fusing multiple gauges of wires several times and making a sheet. The sheet will then be manipulated in different ways to transform it into a frenzied filigree-ish design. We will cut the sheet up and shape it to form a shank. The sheet we will make can be used in all kinds of ways in your future jewelry designs. The technique is one of my most treasured, and was a concept that has evolved over the years. In this workshop we will also cover soldering, fusing, granulation, stone setting with a bezel cup, shaping and polishing.
