TECHNIQUES USING STENCILS AND SEPARATION ENAMELS
FUTURE WORKSHOPS LISTED AT THE END OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT
Saturday and Sunday, May 21 – 22 2022
10:00 am – 5:00 pm each day
Discover the secrets of perfect stenciling and the beautiful effects of separation enamel demystified from Tom Ellis, THE enameling guru from Thompson Enamel!Day 1, Saturday – Explore new approaches in using stencils. Learn to use copper oxide as a decorating material; Use stencils successfully, 1020 white and “pull through”; Combining BC-303 Liquid Clear, Sgraffito, stencil and copper oxide. Three project exercise samples will be made on 1-1/2 by 2” copper pieces.***We will be having dinner at Red Lobster on Friday evening at 6 PM for those students who want to join us!***Day 2, Sunday – Understanding Separation Enamel and Using Gravity for Effect. Separation effect is achieved through building specific layers of enamel that culminate with a painted separation pattern. When fired, the separation is dissolved into the enamel changing its viscosity, sinking and spreading the layers to ‘blossom’ into a fluid, colorful pattern. Gravity affects the flow of the enamel when it is a liquid during firing. A 4-inch folded copper square will be used as the format for the workshop exercise, but the concept can be used to make jewelry and copper enameled bowls.
Class 2-day price, including all materials: $390
