Discover the secrets of perfect stenciling and the beautiful effects of separation enamel demystified from Tom Ellis, THE enameling guru from Thompson Enamel!
Day 1 – Explore new approaches in using stencils. Learn to use copper oxide as a decorating material; Use stencils successfully, 1020 white and “pull through”; Combining BC-303 Liquid Clear, Sgraffito, stencil and copper oxide. Three project exercise samples will be made on 1-1/2 by 2” copper pieces.
Day 2 – Understanding Separation Enamel and Using Gravity for Effect. Separation effect is achieved through building specific layers of enamel that culminate with a painted separation pattern. When fired, the separation is dissolved into the enamel changing its viscosity, sinking and spreading the layers to ‘blossom’ into a fluid, colorful pattern. Gravity affects the flow of the enamel when it is a liquid during firing. A 4-inch folded copper square will be used as the format for the workshop exercise, but the concept can be used to make jewelry and copper enameled bowls.
Both days are technique-oriented with students producing samples of the techniques taught.
Class price, including all materials: $390
NOTE ~ Attendees will be invited to join us for dinner in Mechanicsburg on Friday evening! Location to be announced.
