CLASS DESCRIPTION:
I am a collector of STUFF. I organize, categorize, and display all sorts of Stuff. I also wear my Stuff. How wonderful to collect and incorporate all that Stuff into Art To Wear!
Do you have your kid’s or some of your grandkid’s school photos? Any sketches or artwork? Any beloved pet fur or baby locks? How about a piece of that vintage lace or a special postage stamp?
So, then, why not make them into fabulous charms to wear? I’ve done just that, and doing it for quite awhile now, so I have many, many bracelets. So so addicting! Each bracelet is a wrist full of stories or celebrations that can be worn individually or together with a few more. Each are wonderfully unique…..and they jingle!
This is usually a one-day, fast-paced class. For our two-day class, we will have plenty of time to add more charms and embellishments and learn a few extra tricks. We will make a rich, full charm bracelet! Come join me, won’t you?
In this workshop, everyone will learn basic soldering techniques with no lead solder. We will learn placement, foiling, corner creasing, soldering, jump ring placement, and a solder dot technique. We will add beads to headpins, drill holes in old jewelry, or attach jump rings on metals that are solder friendly. We will learn how to use a special jig to allow soldering of more than one charm at a time. All the tools will be available to share. All you need to bring is your “stuff” and a few small items as outlined on the accompanying list below. Everyone will complete a charm bracelet to include 8 to 10 or more glass charms, buttons, bead bling, found objects and recycled personal jewelry. Take a look at some of the sample bracelets for inspirational embellishments.
Student Material’s List – Things to Bring for personalization of your bracelet
- A dirty or beat up small pliers to use during the actual solder process. You will need it to manipulate your pieces during the process. Flux will ruin the metal of new pliers. STUDIO WILL PROVIDE THESE
- Two nice jewelry pliers to open and close jump rings for attaching charms to the bracelet. STUDIO WILL PROVIDE THESE
- A Sharpie Brand marker, any size tip, and a pencil STUDIO WILL PROVIDE THESE
- Small paper cutting scissors. STUDIO WILL PROVIDE THESE
- 91% rubbing alcohol, found at Walmart or drug store. STUDIO WILL PROVIDE THIS
- Old toothbrush. PLEASE BRING THIS
- A solder fume mask, found online or at a hardware store, if you have lung conditions, or are sensitive to scents or smells. the 3M Particulate Respirator 8577 can be found on Amazon. (The decision to wear a mask while soldering is up to you.) There will be a couple table top carbon fume extractor fans for the room for circulation. PLEASE BRING A MASK
- Pressed flowers, thin lace, your own pictures, art to use in your charm making. You will receive several sizes of glass for charm making in the following sizes: 1”x1” 1”x.75” and 1”x.5” PLEASE BRING THESE. Studio will have some lace, pressed flowers, artsy pictures to share
- Some odd or broken costume jewelry pieces, earrings, rings, other small finds or treasures. We will drill or solder jump rings to your extra bling so you can incorporate into the bracelet. PLEASE BRING THESE
- Bring some ordinary buttons. PLEASE BRING THESE
- Bring several beads or pearls so we can make a few dangles. PLEASE BRING THESE but studio will have some to share
- A cloth tape measure to use for determining wrist size. STUDIO WILL HAVE THESE TO SHARE
*** DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT bring any extra glass pieces or copper foils to class. For class to run smoothly, and guaranteed success for everyone, please use only instructor-supplied supplies.
*** For this workshop, we ask that you wear your hair back and wear long pants.
BIO
Lynne Suprock is a creative mixed media designer, writer, and instructor, making a difference through art. She believes through art the opportunity for emotional or physical healing truly exists. In her 35 years as an advanced practice nurse in education, she has witnessed much of that empowerment and healing power of art.
As a mixed media artist, Lynne uses a variety of products in her work, such as enamel, metal, clay, paint, and fabric. Her work has been published extensively in several journals published by Stampington & Company, as well as in the journal Cloth, Paper, Scissors and The Showcase 500 Art Necklaces, by Lark Books.
She served as a 2015-16 design team member for Amazing Casting Products, and is currently the fabric art educator for Gel Press. Lynne had been featured on seven episodes of the PBS show “Make It Artsy” (seasons 3, 5, 6 and 7), which aired in 2017-19. By purchasing this workshop, you agree to release Charmed I’m Sure Studio, Jean and Lee Van Brederode, their neighbors, or the workshop instructor from any liability that may result from your participation in this event.
This Release and Waiver of Liability is executed by the purchaser of this workshop and Charmed I’m Sure Studio and affiliates members, managers, employees, instructors, neighbors, etc. (collectively “Charmed I’m Sure Studio”) with regard to classes, activities, and workshops held at Charmed I’m Sure Studio.
The Participant does hereby freely, voluntarily, and without duress agree to the following terms:
1.Waiver and Release:
Participant does hereby release and forever discharge and hold harmless Charmed I’m Sure Studio and its successors and assigns from any an all liability claims, and demands of whatever kind or nature, either in the studio or on the property known as 7 Nita Court, Mechanicsburg, PA. which arise or may hereafter arise from Participants involvement in activities hosted, organized or involving Charmed I’m Sure Studio. Participant understands and acknowledges that this Release discharges Charmed I’m Sure Studio from any liability or claim that the Participant may have against Charmed I’m Sure Studio with respect to any accident, bodily injury, personal injury, illness, or property damage that may result from Participants involvement either in the studio or on the property known as 7 Nita Court, Mechanicsburg, PA
2. Assumption of the Risk:
Participant recognizes and understands that there may be inherent risk with regard to Participant’s involvement. Participant understands and acknowledges that this Release discharges Charmed I’m Sure Studio, it’s owners, instructors, neighbors, employees, from injury, illness, accident, or property damage resulting from participation in any event associated with Charmed I’m Sure Studio.
3. Insurance:
The Participant understands that insurance for liability, health, and medical or disability coverage in any way related to this event and under this agreement is the sole responsibility of Participant.
4. Indemnification:
Participant agrees that he/she will indemnify and hold Charmed I’m Sure Studio, instructors, employees, neighbors, or owners of 7 Nita Court, Mechanicsburg, PA, harmless from any liability resulting from involvement in this event by Participant, his/hers assigns, heirs, guests, invites or other persons accompanying Participant.
5. Other:
Participant expressly agrees that this Release is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by laws of the State of Pennsylvania and that this Release shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of Pennsylvania. Participant agrees that in the event that any clause or provision shall not otherwise affect the remaining provisions of this Release which shall continue to be enforceable.
